After such a good year in the showring, Richaven Holsteins were delighted to receive more All-Britain 2011 nominations than any other individual breeders with no less than 5 in 4 categories!

**Fresh on the ground**
We have just calved the fourth Windbrook heifer from six pregnancies from Richaven Goldwyn Adrienne EX-2nd calver!
Windbrook has just improved his figures in the last proof run and we are excited to see these very fancy calves develop out of the 2011 National All-Breeds Exhibitor Bred and Interbreed Champion!

Agriscot SuperCows!
Richaven Shottle Squaw VG88-2yr just claimed the Agriscot title on our first trip north of the border for 8 years! Loukat Lucky VG89 took the Ayrshire title while Crockers Rock Stocking Red VG87-2yr took the Red Heifer Championship. A good trip out!

A great NHS!
Heading our line-up was Richaven Goldwyn Adrienne EX-2nd calver. Exhibitor Bred Interbreed Champion, Exhibitor Bred Breed Champion and Reserve Holstein Champion.
A great show that included the All-Britain Breeders Group for the second year running.

Richaven Holsteins are pleased to welcome the arrival of Crockers Rock Stocking Red V87, now owned in partnership with Paul and Mary Bradley (the Isle of Wight-based Crockers herd).
Bred from the famous Stocking family developed at Crichel, she was recently crowned Breed & Interbreed Champion at the New Forest & Hampshire Show 2011.

Richaven has been busy flushing this Spring.
Donor cows include Adrienne, Fransci, Irene, Bonnie and Vixan.
Richaven Goldwyn Adrienne VG89-3yr (Pictured above in Feb 2010, since scored EX second calf) was successfully flushed to Windbrook. This great young cow is projected to 13,800kgs

Richaven Journalist Fransci EX - third lactation;10,880kgs @ 5.83%fat and 3.88%prot, calved her 4th in March - a Million heifer. Her Goldwyn daughter was recently flushed to Windbrook - look for her at the shows.
Richaven Goldwyn Irene VG88-2yr is possibly the most exciting heifer at Richaven yet.

Richaven Goldwyn Squaw - first Goldwyn daughter of our All Britain Raider Squaw. Already a Knowledge heifer on the ground, she has now calved her first natural heifer, by Sanchez.

Following on from his victory in the Intermediate Handlers Class at the All-Britain Calf Show 2010, Dan Bown has been asked to represent the UK in the International handling section at the Emerald Expo in Ireland at the end of April.
This is a great honour and we look forward to this great Irish showcase.

Recent Records;
Clarkestown Durham Mahala VG89 has now calved twin Shottle heifers after completing her 305 day 2nd yield of 13,883kgs at 4.30%bf and 3.34%p (29CC) - Now milking over 60kgs a day before a month fresh!!
Richaven Goldwyn Adrienne VG88-2yr is another cow recording over 60kgs a day but she only calved her second in October and has maintained that output for five weeks. She looks set to surpass her impressive heifer yield;
305 days, 11,902kgs at 4.41%bf and 3.10%p (17CC)

100% Excellent or Very Good!!!
The Richaven herd had a special classification visit today ahead of the Open Day. Five heifers and ten cows were inspected and all went either VG or EX. This means that the entire Richaven herd of 80 head, including 17 milking heifers, are scored VG or EX.

We are busy putting footings in for two new buildings designed to house both stock and machinery.
A 60' x 30' foot shed located below the silage pits will hold the bigger kit and an 80' x 40' foot shed sited on the main yard will be split into two and provide workshop space and cattle handling and preparation facilities.

Richaven Shottle Squaw, our NHS Reserve Junior Champion 2009 calved a Million heifer calf on June 3rd. We are really pleased with how they both look right now.
Our 95-point Ketby Bud 85 (by Jed) calved a Squawbuck heifer on the 9th June and is looking fantastic. To date, Bud has done over 92 tons in seven lactations and still looks great halving calved her eighth.

The last week has seen both Mattador Squaw EX92-2E and Lee Dawn EX calve out. Mattador Squaw completed 54 tons in her first four lactations and Lee Dawn recorded 12,306kgs at 4.84%fat and 3.07%protein at 48 cell count in her third after gaining 8 days calving interval.

First cut silage (93 acres) was finished on 28th May.
Maize drilling went well and we finished seeding 37 acres of our own on the 20th May as well as all our contract drilling. Seedlings were seen in our last field six days later and it looks promising.
We are now busy with our self-propelled forager on contract silaging plus round bale silage and big bale haylage for our expanding equine customer base.

May Milk Recording
The herd averaged 34.2kgs at the last recording (twice a day milking) at 4.27%fat and 3.17%protein and a 133 cell count. This was only three days after their Bluetongue vaccinations but milk held up well.
Official herd average stands at 10,731kgs at 4.41%fat and 3.18%protein with a rolling cell count of 130

West Midlands Herd Competition
The 2009 Herd Competition results were announced at the recent club stockjudging evening. Richaven took home five awards including;

Richaven were delighted to win the Breeders Group at the first National All Breeds Show.
